Geophoto: Browse Photos Through A 3-D Representation Of Earth
Geophoto from Ovolab is an all-in-one application with which we can easily organize and browse photo by specific location, through a 3-d representation of earth. It is an innovative application for browsing photos by location on Mac platform. Software is even network connected with which we can add iPhoto, connect to Flickr and browse images and many more.
Pros
- Geophoto has a very elaborate and user-friendly interface which is good looking and simple to use. The implementation as a virtual globe is well done in this software using Mac-standard interface.
- Once pictures are geo-tagged, they can be shared with others and appear automatically in the correct location on earth when it get opened in Geophoto. With Geophoto we can pinpoint our pictures to exact location where we had taken it from.
- Geophoto is a standalone software, so we can perform several visualization tricks like photo popups merge as you zoom out and many more.
- With new Geophoto we can upload our own pictures to global library and even view pictures from Flickr and other online services. Finding Flickr photos taken in a particular location on earth can be done effortless by selecting “Find Flickr Photos in this location” from the Geophoto’s menus.
- Seamless integration with iPhoto is another key feature in Geophoto. With this users can browse album pictures on the earth and even add geo-tagging information to pictures that are not connected to a particular location. Users can even subscribe to iPhoto photocasts and browse on Flickr where a vast amount of people already shares geotagged photos.
- Users can even have multiple globes open at same time. With this they can select same location on different globes and select multiple pictures.
- This software breaks the limits of large amount of pictures sorted by date. This helps in pinpointing the exact location where you had taken the picture.
Cons
- The resolution used in Geophoto is very primitive, it comes nowhere near to the cool look that we have in GoogleEarth.
- It has only got a single layer on the globe. There are no geographical representations like roads, cities, clouds etc.
- We cannot geo-reference to a picture manually as in GoogleEarth. We need to search for that place and if the software finds it, then we can set the picture to that location.
- Navigation controls used in this software are also very poor. We cannot pan or tilt location as we can in GoogleEarth.
The Verdict
Geopoto is interesting software even if you are a beginner or a professional. Users can even connect to pictures online using Flickr, iPhoto and many more. The software is definitely worth trying by all.
