To get started you will have to follow four simple steps. Initially create an account. This can be done in barely few minutes. Then deposit cash to your account. For installation purpose, first you will have to copy the webcam.js, webcam.swf and shutter.mp3 files to your web server.

So in short, the JPEGCam is a simple, Flash and Javascript library that would enable your users to submit the Webcam snapshots to your server in the JPEG format. The Flash movie is of variable-sized and has got no visible user interface controls. All the commands sent to the movie are done from the Javascript. By doing this, you can implement your own look and feel on your site, make your own buttons and also tell the Flash movie what you want to do from your own code. In the server side code, the Flash movie creates a HTTP POST to your server-side script using the Content-Type ‘image/jpeg’. This is a not a standard method that is unlike submitting a form from the web page. Incase you are using the PHP, the JPEG data will not be in the normal $_POST associative array. Instead you should be reading it from the special PHP wrapper: ‘php://input’.

To define the SDK in a much more better way it has some components such as the treemap, US Map, “copying data to the computer’s clipboard” etc. These components can be used independently either within other applications or assembled together to create the full applications. The JuiceKit is very well-documented and there are examples given in the website to show the things that can be created.

The JuiceKit has been used to build many information visualizations and customer applications. Some of the illustrations are cited below:
1. Federal Recovery Act Treemap – This is an application of the JuiceKit SDK Treemap visualization to understand the components of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 much better.
2. Economic Census Data Treemap – The NAICS takes an economic census every 5 years. This data is used to demonstrate on how the JuiceKit is used to implement the treemap with the additional controls to change some of the display parameters.

The packaged distributions will be available soon. Meanwhile to use the project, you will have two ways: firstly, download the latest build from the continuous integration server. And secondly to build the library and documentation from the source following the Getting Started instructions given in their website.

Presently only the Application Programming Interface (API) documentation for developers is available. The tutorial documents will be added soon.
The JuiceKit can be downloaded from Github. The requirements for this are Adobe Flash Player 9.0.124 or later, Adobe Flex SDK and Adobe Flex Builder IDE (optional).

Feedback and contributions from the community are made possible. For this you can either get involved in the JuiceKit development community discussion group on the Google Groups to learn about the best practices, tips and tricks and questions and answers. They are trying to make suggestions and report bugs in their issue tracking system possible. For this, you can help them stay focussed on the areas that you believe to be the most important. Lastly, if you want you can make changes to the code and submit them for review and can be included into the code. All this can be done in Github.

The HYPE is a creative coding framework that is built on top of the ActionScript 3. A major goal of the HYPE is to allow the newcomers to Flash and ActionScript that enables Flash developers of every level to creatively play and express themselves. The framework is extendible as it is possible to write many new classes and we can improve them. Many examples are provided at the HYPE website that are worth trying out.

To get started, the user needs to know the most basic knowledge of programming such as variables, conditionals, loops and functions. As the user learns more about programming, they can extend the HYPE and thus grow their skills simultaneously inspiring the next generation.

For more than 10 years, the Flash community has been incredibly unique in both it’s vibrancy and creativity. This is basically a community that was essentially created by the users. It was driven by the beautiful, amazing and the cool things that the people were creating with the Flash. In the beginning, the most innovative works were created by the designers, artists and other non-developers. These were the people who created the “hype” that made the Flash to rise way above any other similar technologies. But today these enthusiasts are becoming an endangered species.

Flash has developed over the past decade. It has developed in such a way that they have blocked the non-developers from even getting started. With the older versions of the Flash one could easily learn about the various tools and how to program the ActionScript almost entirely through the creative play. With the recent iterations, unless you have a background in an object-oriented programming, that method of learning by doing is not a good option. HYPE is not meant for the people who are new to programming. Instead, HYPE is for anyone who regardless of their skill wants to play with the codes. The main idea of HYPE is to make the Flash fun again.
